The past several months I have been working non-stop and saving up for grad school. It has finally paid off since I am now living Lewisville, TX and working toward my Master in Journalism at the University of North Texas. I will hopefully have a more steady flow of images online now that I am back in school. Enjoy!

What a ride…

On the way down to Big Bend back in March Wyman and I were listening to the Flower Power cd he had just received. We were jamming out to old hippy songs when Going Up the Country by Canned Heat started playing. Listening closely to the lyrics, we discovered the perfect theme song for the Junction photo class he has taught the past 12 years. Wyman and I decided we should make a music video.

Soon it was May and we were down at Independence Creek when we began filming. The spring-fed pond was the ideal setting for the video. Between 13 photographers we had everything we could possibly need to the task and plenty of people on hand to be cast and crew.

We wrapped up shooting at Fort McKavitt with a final shot of Trevor, Keisha, and Cayla letting loose at dusk.

And here is the product of everyone’s effort. This was my first go with the new Final Cut X. Hope you all enjoy it. I recommend clicking on the video and watching it in HD.

Independence Creek

Just returned from our four-day excursion to the Oasis Ranch, south of Ozona. The class spends the morning and evenings shooting and the days hanging out and having a good time. The conditions were dry this year and we really had to search to find some subject matter. There is only a week left but we are still going strong.

Yesterday and today we went out to 377 Falls and the Llano River Ranch. The water is real low this year but allows for some great rapids. The flood from last year didn’t change the scenery too much and it was surprising to see little pecan trees still standing where the water plowed through. The first week has flown by and our pilgrimage to the Oasis Ranch is within sight.

Back in the Hill Country.

I am back at the Tech campus in Junction, Texas. Wyman and I arrived Tuesday afternoon and got everything set up. After a slow day of introductory stuff on Wednesday we were back in the saddle. This morning we took “Fred” out behind the academic building and had a photo shoot. He wasn’t a huge rattlesnake but he put a fight the whole time and provided the class with some great shots. A great way to start out the two-week adventure.

Junction is coming up in another month and I cannot wait to be back in the Hill Country photographing some of the best land in the world. Hopefully the spring rains will come so the flowers will flourish.

This past week I had the grand opportunity to spend 5 days in Big Bend Ranch State Park with Wyman helping him with a workshop. We were fortunate to have excellent weather and a great crew of participants. This weekend was also the largest and brightest the moon has been in 28 years and this presented us with a rare opportunity to photograph something that wont happen again for several more decades. Here is a shot from Sunday morning. We climbed a cliff early in the morning before the sun rose and could not have asked for a more perfect morning.

Expect much more in the next week or so. Still going through the 500+ images.
